Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and it’s famous for having a lot of things to see and do. Here are some of them:

Go to the De Wallen – Red Light District

De Wallen is one of famous red light districts. There is a network of canals and alleys where hundreds of sex workers offer services from windows or doors illuminated with red lights and it is a popular tourist destination.

Go to the Court of Begijnhof
The Court of Begijnhof is one of Amsterdam’s oldest inner courts. It has many historic buildings and some are private homes. The English Reformed Church is there.

Go to the Van Gogh Museum
The famous Van Gogh Museum features artwork painted by the well-known Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, as well as paintings done by other painters who lived during that timeframe.

See the Anne Frank House

The Anne Frank House is located on the Prinsengracht canal and is where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis. It is now a famous museum where the hiding area has been preserved.

Amsterdam is known as the “Venice of the North.”  There are hundreds of kilometers of canals, along with about 1,500 bridges, 90 islands and more than 1,500 monumental structures. The three main canals were built during the 17th century, and some of the canals are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Amsterdam’s Royal Palace is one of three such palaces in the Netherlands that can be used by Queen Beatrix via an Act of Parliament. It was built in the 17th century. It was once King Louis Napoleon’s royal palace. It is located in the center of town next to Nieuwe Kerk and the War Memorial in the west side of the Dam Square.
